Everest: Astonishing images of climbing Mount Everest. An IMAX crew ascends the peak in May of 1996. The IMAX team succeeded, but eight climbers from other teams died. The IMAX team assisted in rescues before finishing their ascent.

The King and I: The (1999) C-87 Compacted energized rendition made for kids of classic Rodgers and Hammerstein lyrical now contains romps with animal chums, and black witchcraft by the baron’s sinister priest. Artwork and settings are vibrant and lavish, however expression is erratic. 8 melodies out of 20 subsist somehow unscathed. Cast includes the voices of Miranda Richardson, Christiane Noll, Martin Vidnovic, Ian Richardson, Darrell Hammond, Adam Wylie, and Allen D. Hong. (87 minutes, 1999)

It’s Trad Dad: Excellent cast assists limp story of Englishman who uses look-alikes for four bank tellers to lug off robbery. Cast includes Edward G. Robinson, Terry-Thomas, and Adolfo Celi. (93 minutes, 1968)

Lightning in a Bottle: Vigorous Blues tribute performance film, orchestrated in 2003 at Stereo City Music Chamber, opens with an onstage intro by Martin Scorsese. Then it tears up the joint. What little backstage material there is demonstrates gripping, although wisely lets the actors over-power an approximately chronological history characterizing both war horse and modern-day entertainers. For a blues film, this is a pretty good flick. (106 minutes, 2004)

Little Women: Glossy is a redo of Louisa Might Alcott’s pleasant account of adolescent girls finding maturation and romantically set. Cast includes June Allyson, Peter Lawford, Margaret O’Brien, Elizabeth Taylor, Janet Leigh, and Mary Astor. (121 minutes, 1949)

The Believers: Clutching, sincerely petrifying plot of widower and child who move to N.Y.C. and become engaged (in more ways than one) with cultish religion of Santeria, which believes in the sacrifice of youngsters. Well crafted film knows how to exploit its spectators however shows no identity either. Cast includes Martin Sheen, Helen Shaver, Harley Cross, Robert Loggia, Elizabeth Wilson, Lee Richardson, Harris Yulin, Richard Masur, Carla Pinza, and Jimmy Smits. (114 minutes, 1987)

Follow the Boys: All-inclusive images in all-megastar WW2 smash hit has Raft arranging USO shows, WeIles sawing Dietrich in half, MacDonald harmonizing “Way past the Blue Horizon,” Fields doing classic pool-table regimen, etc. This movie is lots of fun. Cast includes Marlene Dietrich, George Raft, Orson Welles, Vera’ Zorina, Dinab Beach, W. C. Fields, Jeanette MacDonald, Maria Montez, Andrews Siblings, Sophie Tucker, Nigel Bruce, and Gale Sondergaard. (110 minutes, 1944)
